New to Prescribing Contraception for Pharmacists UK Only                                                                                                            

Dovetail are pleased to be able to support the recent initiative by NHS England for the
provision of contraception by Pharmacists by offering the following training which also
includes an Emergency Contraception update.

 

Understanding of NHS Service Specification 

  • Familiarise with the key aspects of the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service Version 2.0.
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of community pharmacies under this
    specification.

 

Compliance with Legal and Clinical Guidelines

  • Interpret and apply legal requirements and clinical guidelines specific to the provision of oral contraception in community pharmacies.
  • Recognise the importance of adhering to Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and NICE guidelines


Patient Eligibility Assessment

  • Accurately identify eligible individuals for oral contraception services, including age and
    health status considerations.
  • Understand and apply the exclusion criteria as per the NHS service specification.

 

Effective Consultation Skills

  • Develop strategies for efficient and confidential patient consultations.
  • Learn to obtain and document verbal consent, and understand the implications of
    information sharing with NHS entities and general practices.

 

Clinical Assessment and Decision Making 

  • Conduct appropriate clinical assessments for OC supply, including BMI and blood pressure
    measurements.
  • Make informed decisions about the type and duration of oral contraception supply.

 

Discussion of Contraceptive Options

  • Confidently discuss a range of contraceptive options, including LARC, and their suitability for
    different individuals.
  • Understand when and how to signpost patients to other healthcare providers for further
    contraceptive advice or services


Safeguarding and Ethical Considerations

  • Recognise and act upon safeguarding concerns.
  • Understand the ethical considerations in providing contraception advice and services,
    including respecting patient autonomy and confidentiality.
  • Practical Case Studies

Once this information has been received from your Practice/Business Manager, your booking will be made and the invoice will then be sent to your practice/PCN for payment.

 

Cancellation period for paid events 

The minimum cancellation period is 21 days in writing before the course.  Cancellations less than 21 days before the course date will need to be paid for in full.

 

CPD certificates

CPD certificates are issued post event subject to full payment being received.  Please allow up to 10 working days post event to receive CPD certification.

Invoice to practice is available by email request from your practice/business manager to yvonne@dovetailhealthevents.com  

The following information will need to be provided for each attendee:

  • Full name as to appear of certificate
  • Attendees NHS email address
  • Attendees job title
  • Full Practice address
  • Details of where to send invoice to (inc PO number if relevant)
