Asthma Care for HCAs and Allied Healthcare Professionals
This course is for HCAs and Allied HCPS who are supporting patients with asthma. The course provides foundational knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive asthma care support.
Course Aims and Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of healthy lungs, by gaining a foundational understanding of lung structure and function.
- What is Asthma - Understand asthma as a chronic respiratory condition
- Recognise changes in lung structure and function due to asthma and the associated symptoms.
- Learn the diagnostic process for asthma, including patient history and physical examination and understand the importance of performing accurate pulmonary function tests (e.g., peak flow and spirometry).
- Be aware of the different treatment options available for patients with asthma.
- Be familiar with various inhaler delivery systems to enable appropriate device choice based on individual patient needs.
- Confidently assess and support patients in proper inhaler technique across a range of inhaler devices.
- Understand how to create and support patients in following an asthma action plan
